Family Photographer in Charleston, SC
I absolutely love family photography! While each session is different, I approach each one with the same goal – to truly capture the unique energy, personality, and affection of each family so I can provide authentic, engaging pictures and a fun and memorable experience!
One of the reasons I love my job is that, in addition to being my own boss and getting to create for a living, I get to meet so many amazing people! I also recognize that many folks (possibly most) don’t love having their pictures taken and I decided long ago that providing an enjoyable experience is just as important as taking great pictures. And I truly believe this is why so many people hire me, again and again, to capture the special (and sometimes rare) time that family can all be together – time that they treasure more than anything else.
I’m so very grateful to live in the amazing Lowcountry which offers vast beauty, diversity, and history. Whether you’re interested in doing a fun session at one of the great beaches in the area or prefer being surrounded by majestic oaks or cobblestone streets, wrought-iron gates and colorful buildings, the Holy City is a wonderful place in which to immerse yourself with friends and family. I also gladly accommodate the style preferences my clients are looking for – be it more traditional, posed images or strictly candid, playful pictures (or a mix). I offer a relaxed direction to engage the people I photograph in order to achieve authentic expressions full of life.
I’d be honored and delighted to be chosen to capture beautiful moments of you and your family together!
Gratefully,
Adam

Frequently Asked Questions (before Your Session)
We know that coordinating a photo session, especially for large families, can be both challenging and, for many folks, daunting. My top priority, as a photographer with more than a decade of experience, is not only to capture beautiful images but to also provide you and your family with an experience that is both relaxing and enjoyable. If, at any time, you have any questions or concerns about your session, just give me a call and I’ll gladly discuss things with you. Thank you so much for trusting me to photograph this special time of you all together. I very much look forward to meeting you all.
Q: What should we wear?
A: Family members don’t have to match exactly, but may want to stay coordinated with similar colors and styles. I recommend avoiding busy patterns and clothing with distinct graphics and logos. I definitely recommend you wear something that you’re comfortable in. If you choose, it’s also okay to wear something that reflects your personality even if it breaks some of the standard “rules” about wearing muted colors and earth tones.
Q: When is the best time of day to take portraits?
A: The answer to this question really depends on the location. For beach photos I typically recommend the “golden hour” just before sunset when the light is softer and the temperature is more moderate. If your session will be held in a park or downtown location where there’s shade, any time of day is usually fine.
Q: When and how should I book my session?
A: If you’re visiting from out of town, it’s best to book your session as far in advance as possible to help insure there’s availability. I also recommend booking early in your stay to help avoid any sunburn mishaps as well as to offer some flexibility in rescheduling if the weather doesn’t cooperate. The best way to reserve your appointment is to call us at 843-735-2275.
Q: Can you come to my house for sessions?
A: Yes. While there are some great public spaces in the Lowcountry, I’ll gladly meet you at your home for a session. This is often a great option, in fact, because it offers more privacy and is often conducive to small kids being more relaxed and at ease because they’re in a familiar setting.
Q: What happens if it rains during our session?
A: I always closely monitor the weather which, naturally, can be very unpredictable. Weather can change quickly especially during the summer months and I typically don’t make the cancellation call until an hour or two before your session. Even if it’s raining not very long before your session time, the weather can clear up in an instant and offer beautiful lighting. Your safety is my utmost concern, though, so if it begins to rain during your session or if we have severe wind or lightning, I’ll absolutely cancel your session and do my best to reschedule any remaining portrait time.
Q: Can we do clothing changes during our session?
A: Keep in mind that there are no private areas to change clothing on the beach. And, often times changing clothes can turn into a production that will cut into the time of your portrait session’s best lighting. For “Senior Portraits” I expect clothing changes and advise young adults to think in layers and to bring a large blanket that can be used as a changing screen.
Q: Can I bring my pet?
A: Yes. I totally understand that pets are just furry family members and can make great additions to group photos. However, if you do choose to bring along your pet, you may want to consider hiring a pet handler to help out during the session. That way if your pet is having a bad day we can still get a nice variety of family portraits taken. You’ll also want to be sure to bring a leash as many public areas have leash laws.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: If you need to cancel your session for any reason, I ask that you please do so as soon as possible. If we need to cancel your session due to inclement weather and – for folks visiting from out of town – we’re unable to reschedule your session before you leave, your retainer will be refunded in full. If you cancel your session for any reason other than a legitimate emergency, your retainer will be forfeited.
Family Portrait Sessions: Frequently Asked Questions (after Your Session)
Q: What happens after our session? When will I see proofs?
A: Within two weeks of your session, you’ll receive a link to your online gallery where you can view and share your favorite photos. You’ll also be able to easily order high-quality professional prints, if you choose, from one of the best labs in the country which will ship them directly to you!
Q: Do you edit all the images?
A: Yes, I apply my years of experience not only to the sessions but to the editing/ processing of your images as well. When you choose an image for printing you may have additional requests for retouching. Often times I can make small edits at no charge (like removing small blemishes) but when I need to do more substantial editing, additional charges may apply.
Q: What kind of prints and products can we order?
A: Adam Chandler Photography proudly uses White House Custom Color (WHCC) for all print products. They offer a nice variety of print sizes, finishes, framing options and more. Available products can be viewed here: https://www.whcc.com/products
Q: Can I still order if my online gallery has expired?
A: Yes. Your online gallery will be available for 1 year. After this time, there is a fee of $35 to reactivate the gallery. This amount will be waived if print products are ordered through the gallery that exceed $100.
Q: Can I get my images delivered on a disc or usb drive?
A: Yes. While most folks find the online gallery to be a very convenient way to view and share the images, a usb/flash drive is available at an additional cost of $95 which includes time, material cost and SC sales tax of 9%.
Thank you for your consideration! I would be honored to photograph you and your family. Please let me know if you have any questions that are not answered above.
